About WHaMBROC

The Whitsunday Hinterland and Mackay Bowen Regional Organisation of Councils, is a group of local government authorities which is more commonly referred to as WHaMBROC.

Participating Councils in the WHaMBROC region are Belyando Shire Council, Bowen Shire Council, Broadsound Shire Council, Mackay City Council, Mirani Shire Council, Nebo Shire Council, Peak Downs Shire Council, Sarina Shire Council and Whitsunday Shire Council. As a group, WHaMBROC represents over 150,000 residents and covers an area of 98,467 square kilometres.

WHaMBROC seeks to develop and deliver a local government regional perspective by constituting a forum through which the experience, ideas and effort of member councils can be captured and cultivated.

Potential of a Regional Organisation of Councils

Activities can include the following:
> Research - underpinned by the advantage of taking a regional perspective on the many issues and developments which cross local boundaries.
> Regional strategies integrating economic, social, environmental and cultural development. > Resource sharing is an integral part of a ROC's operation.
> Advocacy - promoting and protecting the region: providing effective standing and a voice for the region.
> Securing appropriate funding for regional initiatives.
> Brokering or facilitating the development and implementation of programs of central governments.

WHaMB ROC is above all committed to promoting the development of the region as a key objective.
